The name of this elegant Florentine residence is linked to the road that the gardens look onto: Via Bolognese. It is the oldest postal road crossing the Tuscan Apennines and today gives convenient access to Florence from the most charming residential area around the city.
In one direction it leads to the city centre but in the other this road, which starts from the ancient gate of S. Gallo at Ponte Rosso, leads up the Pellegrino hill and continues through the hills of Pietra and Lastra, Trespiano and Pratolino. Here, once past the park of the Medici villa of the same name, it leaves Florence behind it and continues upwards to Futa, in the direction of Bologna, through valleys, ridges and mountains.
Villa La Sosta, which in the past was part of a more extensive property on the Montughi hill, is surrounded by large gardens with cypress and fruit trees; the building itself is elegant and sober, enriched by architectural elements recalling the eclectic style of the beginning of the 1900s, like the main bow-window entrance and the tower-mansard which gives a view of the surrounding hillside.
Fantoni brother and sister, have decided to use a part of this family villa, which dates back to the end of the nineteenth century, as a high class Bed and Breakfast.
Giusy and Antonio offer three double rooms, a triple room and a quadruple room, bright and quiet, some of these furnished with period pieces from the 1800s, all with private bathrooms and independent entrance.
A comfortable lift will take you up to the windowed-attic where you can admire a breathtaking view of the surrounding hillside.
The continental breakfast is served in the spacious kitchen in colder
months and in the garden, under an ivy pergola in the summer.
Information sur les transports
From the railway station Firenze S.M.N. take the no. 25 bus. Get off at the bus stop about 800 metres after Via Bolognese begins, just after the "Total" petrol station: Villa La Sosta is on the left hand side and is recognisable by its wide cast iron gates.
If you come off the motorway at Firenze Nord/Firenze Sud or from the airport follow the road signs for the Viali di Circonvallazione/Centro and go towards Piazza della Libertà. Once there follow the signs for Via Bolognese.
